61st FACIM: HCB named the country’s largest exporter to South Africa

01/09/2026

The 61st edition of FACIM opened yesterday morning, 31 August 2026, in Ricatla, Marracuene district, Maputo province, at an event led by the Head of State, Daniel Chapo.

The highlight of the first day was the recognition of the companies operating in the country that contributed most to foreign currency earnings through exports in 2025. Among them was Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), named the “country’s largest exporter to South Africa”.

According to the hydropower company’s chairman, Tomás Matola, the recognition — one of many in the company’s history — further underlines HCB’s contribution to the national economy.

Matola also said the award, presented as part of “Exporter’s Day”, will be an incentive for HCB to increase its power generation capacity in order to meet growing regional demand, which necessarily requires expansion.
